NCI Trainings and Certificate Program

The NCI Certificate Program includes the practical skills, tools and techniques to prepare you for planning and managing a project that includes a charrette. The program teaches a flexible, three-phase, project management system that can be customized for any community planning and development project including:

• Sustainable community and building design
• Regional and comprehensive planning
• Master planning
• Transportation/infrastructure planning
• Code/policy writing

New to the trainings is video footage that places you into key charrette moments. Participants learn using fast paced, interactive, hands-on exercises based on recent charrette case studies. The program is ideal for planners and designers specializing in sustainable development, transportation, public works, and transit as well as citizen advocacy

NCI Charrette System™ Certificate
This 3-day training is a fresh, new course that illustrates the capability of the NCI Charrette System for all aspects of community planning. Participants learn the practical NCI Charrette System skills, tools and techniques through new interactive, hands-on exercises practiced on four case study types:

• Sustainable community planning
• Regional/comprehensive planning
• Transportation/infrastructure planning
• Transit oriented development planning.

This training combines our previous “Introduction to Dynamic Planning” and “Continuing Dynamic Planning” trainings. It is equivalent to the NCI Charrette Planner® Certificate.

NCI Charrette Management and Facilitation™ Certificate
This new 1.5-day, advanced training will equip charrette managers with the essential tools and techniques required to handle unique, fast paced, and constantly changing, multiple-day charrettes.

Participants learn:
• The essentials of detailed day-to-day charrette management
• The indispensable skills of public meeting planning and facilitation

Technical Assistance and Coaching:

NCI provides technical assistance to help plan project processes. We can help you plan your process from the beginning or audit a draft process. These courses are accredited with the AIA for continuing education system (CES) units and with the AICP for certification maintenance (CM) credits.
